What : Austin in Solidarity with Gaza
Stop the Killing! Stop the Siege! We demand that President-elect Obama and the US congress insist upon and facilitate sincere and open negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians, negotiations that can lead to a lasting and just peace for both sides.
When : 2PM Saturday, January 17, 2009 State Capitol, South Steps, Austin, Texas.
Featured Speakers:
The event will feature speakers from the Austin faith and academic communities: reverend Jim Rigby of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian church will speak about racial apartheid in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King and professor Roy Casagranda with the ACC Government department will historically contextualize the conflict. We will also be hosting Judith Norman, professor of philosophy at Trinity University in San Antonio speaking as a Jewish woman for Palestinian rights. Musicians from the Austin community will be featured and perhaps most importantly we will hear from Palestinian Texans about their personal experiences in the Occupied Territories.
The Austin Gaza Coalition is: PSC (The Palestinian Solidarity Committee), CAMEO, APPP (Austin Permanent Peace Protest), ISO (International Socialist Organization) , Third Coast Activist Resource Center, Instruments for Peace, ACPJ (Austin Center for Peace and Justice), Austin Chapter 66 Veterans For Peace, Interfaith Community for Palestinian Rights, ARA (Anti-racist Action), Code Pink and Texans for Peace.
